Revolutionary key technology
Silixa’s key technology is the revolutionary Intelligent Distributed Acoustic Sensor (IDAS), which
can uniquely listen to every point along tens of kilometres of optical cable. This
acoustic data is useful in itself but, with appropriate interpretation, the IDAS can be
used to monitor a large number of different parameters including flow and leaks and
detecting intruders. As the IDAS measures at a large number of sensing points
simultaneously, it can be used for more exotic measurements such as acoustic imaging
and beamforming to form a massive acoustic telescope. Currently the IDAS technology
is at the preproduction stage and is being used for customer demonstrations and field trials

In addition to the IDAS sensing unit, Silixa is building the capability to provide the full sensing
service of project management, cable installation, data communications and data interpretation.
Although concentrating on the IDAS technology, in response to customers’ requirements for a
distributed temperature sensor (DTS) with better performance than currently available,
Silixa has recently launched the world’s finest spatial resolution DTS. This has a performance
more than one order of magnitude better than the best alternative.
