Silixa, the leading developer of the next generation of optical fibre sensors, is rapidly expanding its business and we are looking for an Electronics Engineer to join the team. The position will be based in the UK.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will be responsible for leading the electronics design on Silixa’s range of products including its unique Intelligent Distributed Acoustic Sensor.

The role will involve leading the analogue and digital design on Silixa’s range of optoelectronics systems, including the Intelligent Distributed Acoustic Sensor. You will be responsible for the whole electronics development cycle from circuit design and layout to test of populated prototypes. In addition, we expect the successful candidate to be involved in other elements of the product design such as hardware layout and controller/interface design. You will also assist in the assembly and detailed test of initial prototype units.

Other responsibilities include:

  • • Experience in high speed analogue electronics
  • • Experience in optoelectronics (lasers, receivers etc)
  • • Experience in digital electronics
  • • Experience in electronics development cycle
  • • Proven record of ability to manage time and work to deadlines
  • • Excellent team working skills

Qualifications

A good degree in electronic engineering or extensive vocational experience.

The Company

Silixa is developing the next generation of optical fibre sensors, which can simply listen to the acoustic signal at every point along many kilometres of standard telecoms optical fibre. Unlike point sensors, Silixa’s Distributed Acoustic Sensor (IDAS) has no bulky, expensive components and, since the sensing element is standard fibre, can be deployed cost-effectively and flexibly in remote, hostile environments.

The IDAS technology utilises cutting-edge, high-speed optoelectronics and signal processing technology to enable a large stream of acoustic data at every location to be recorded and processed in real-time. This revolutionary technology provides the foundation for advancing the frontiers of acoustic sensing and imaging, leading to many new industrial and scientific applications.

The Package

An attractive and competitive package is being offered. This will include Private Medical Insurance and an attractive pension plan.
